Onyx Johnson, a local Celina highschool student, that’s always up for change. WIth his outgoing personality and his love of dancing, and dedication to band. After winning Dance competition for the freshman for homecoming court, slowly learning about his pass and how he ended up in Celina High School.
“Well, I’m a freshman now, just starting high school. I recently moved to Celina from Lima. My family wanted a fresh start, so we decided to explore new opportunities and experiences here. It’s been quite a journey, but I’m excited about the change,” Onyx said.
At the young age of 14, he has given insight on his life and how he has coped with things that made him the person he is today. “
“School, especially when I was younger, was a challenge for me. I was picked on for my sexuality for my personality with people I thought were my friends. When I see a person alone and they look like they are lost or just sad. I try going up and starting talking to them to hopefully not make them feel as alone”. Onyx shared.
“Embracing your personality and being true to yourself is so important. For me I’m an extrovert, I’d describe myself as loud, I’m halfway into finding myself as a person, but I’m not quite finished-”. Millions of teens go through self discovery and feel lost themselves. Onyx’s shared experience after finding his way gives hope to many many teens.
With the pair of two evil eyes, he proclaims they are good luck. “Evil eye charms are believed to protect against negative energy and jealousy. They’re pretty popular because they can ward off bad vibes. I actually have a couple of blue and pink evil eye charms that I wear. They make me feel more confident and remind me to stay positive.” Onyx explained .
“They have a special meaning, the blue one makes me feel smarter, more confident in my answers because I feel stupid most of the time. But the pink one is for love, I’m trying to find my boo thang.”
I asked Onyx to pick a photo from his camera roll and give a little story behind it, unfortunately the photo was lost, but it was someone in a dirty chucky mask waiting for the school bus. “I feel like this in the mornings. I hate the mornings. I’d rather sleep and stay in bed. I’m not really a night owl either. I’m more of a If I get a chance Imma sleep.” He answered in response. Making sure you find your way around High School and getting your beauty sleep is the recipe to having an amazing freshman year.
