Between Two Sides

Between+Two+Sides

Almost 32 years ago, the world broke out in a panic when Germany invaded Poland. This began a huge line of dominos leading to the death of millions and the demise of Adolf Hitler. Specifically, on December Seventh, 1941, Japanese aircrafts traveled to an American Naval Base in Honalulu, Hawaii and bombed Pearl Harbor. This caused the United States to join World War II on December Eighth, 1941.

For many, it is hard for people to understand and grasp the idea behind what it’s like to be in a war until someone has personally experienced it. In the case of World War II, millions upon millions of innocent people personally experienced the effects of the war, both directly and indirectly. Since World War II, there have been many other wars from 1941 to 2023.

More recently however, we see the continual armed conflicts between Israel and Palestine. These conflicts began in 1947 when Resolution 181, or the Partition Plan, seperated Palestine into two diffrent religious states, one state being Arab, the other Jewish. The Jewish state became known as Israel in 1948. This was because after World War II, the United Kingdom came up with a plan to move the Jews and allow them to have their own nation, government, and religious customs. This began the first war between Jews and Arabs. Israel won in 1949, and the territory was divided into three parts: Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.

Between many wars, peace treaties, and negtiations, Israel and Palestine (and other nations) have put each other through the ringer with how vicious they both are about who “rightfully” owns the land. Back in October, an extremist group, Hamas, the main group controlling Gaza, waged war on Israel. Hundreds of people were taken captive, over 1,000 people were killed and over 3,000 people were left injured. On October Eighth, Israel declared war on Hamas.

Curently, the Israelis are going to attempt to flood the undergroud tunnels all through the Gaza Strip. They are trying to get Hamas out of the tunnels and out of hiding. The tunnels also are storage for their weapons and artilary. The Israelis are trying to dismantle Hamas every way they can. They have moved citizens out of the north portion of the Gaza Strip to the south area because they are going to try to destroy the northern area.

This war is a perfect example of how we don’t see everything. It is so confusing and if anyone tried to explain the chaotic mess, they wouldn’t cover all the details. This war is so intricate, just like World War II. There simply isn’t enough paper in the world to write down every detail, which is why we all need to be open to different perspectives. We shouldn’t be so aarogant and think we know everything. It can be troublsome to take sides because, ultimately, innocent people are being raped and murdered and we need to be on the side of them.

Autumn Klosterman, Staff Writer
Autumn Klosterman is a Sophomore at Celina High School. She is an avid runner and swimmer. She loves to compete in Cross Country, Swim, and Track, all for the Celina High School teams. Although, her favorite of the three is swim. Klosterman attends Alethia Christian Church and proudly expresses her faith. She came to the faith once she started cross country in seventh grade. She met a girl, Jennalee Dameron, who invited Klosterman to church one Wednesday afternoon, from there her faith only grew into the Christian she is today. She hopes to grow even farther in her faith to be able to help others with their walk with Christ. She wants to become a Christian counselor to do this. Currently, she works at Menards in Celina, Ohio, saving money for college. Klosterman used to be working to get an honors diploma in high school, however, she instead is now working to get the required credits to graduate early to start college sooner. She wishes to go to Vision Christian Bible College. Oddly enough, she also hopes to run a pet store one day.  Once she graduates high school she will begin the process to become a Christian couselor. Klosterman wishes to have a big family and a big house in a small town in Michigan near Detroit. She wants to move to Michigan because she wants to move away, but stil stay close to home. Hopefully this is all possible and Klosterman is successful in her efforts to become the couselor she wishes to become.
